New Orleans Winter Dance Intensive

Overview
 
The weekend will be jam-packed with classes surrounding students in a non-competitive environment where they can be free to learn, perform and grow as dance artists. Classes are limited to 35 students, so dancers will receive more one-on-one attention with their instructor. Dancers will receive 12 hours of instruction collectively. All instructors are established or emerging artists that have performed, choreographed and taught nationally, some globally.

Dancers will participate in 3 core classes (Class A/B/C) that will meet each day, along with 4 one-time elective classes (Elective 1/2/3/4). There will be a Free Critique Session on Saturday evening for studios, schools, dance teams, college students or student soloists to present a dance work in front of the Intensive's instructors to receive constructive feedback. This is strictly for the performers' and choreographers' benefit. No observers will be allowed in this session.

The weekend will culminate in a showing presenting what the dancers learned in their core classes. The final showing will be open to all participants and their family and friends.

 

Class Level Guide

INT - minimum age 11...Geared for ages 11-14; students should have mastered basic skills

ADV - minimum age 14...Geared for ages 14-17; class will move at a faster pace; students should be able to pick up choreography quickly

PRO - minimum age 17...Geared for ages 17-adult; for dancers at a college/university level of skill or above 

 

 

 
Hotel Information

The weekend's activities will take place on the 2nd floor of the Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans Convention Center in downtown New Orleans. (1201 Convention Center Blvd.) Participants are not required to stay at the Hampton; however, if interested in reserving a room, please call 504-566-9990 or toll-free 1-866-311-1200, and request the group RED Feet Productions and the dates to receive the group rate, which is $99/nt. + tax. You must make reservations by December 11, 2008, in order to ensure an available room and the group rate. All reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card. Valet parking is $26.75/night + tax; a private lot is available for $10/day (no in-and-out access) during the hours of the event. Off-street parking and non-affiliated parking lots  in the surrounding area are also available.

  • All A/B/C Classes and 4 Elective classes

***Teachers/Studio Owners only receive an All-Access pass to observe or participate in any class. They may only observe their own studio's/school's time during the Free Critique Session.

 

 

Observers (Space is limited. Pre-register to ensure a spot!)

**The A/B/C Final Showings on Sunday do not require an observer pass.

***NO note-taking, video-taping or participation allowed. Please stay to sides of room.

****NO children under the age of 5 will be allowed into any classroom.

 

 

Free Critique Session - Sat. 1/10: 8:30pm-10pm

There is no fee to apply, but space is limited due to time constraints. Pre-register your dance work to ensure a time slot.  There will be a sign-up at the registration table on Saturday if spots are still available. Costumes are not required. Only performers and choreographers/coaches affiliated with the dance will be allowed in the ballroom during your time slot. Video-taping is allowed, but limited to one camera in use by a representative of the studio, school or student.

 

 

T-shirts and Videos

  • Event T-shirts can be pre-ordered for $15 each with your registration. There will be a limited number of shirts sold on-site during the weekend.
  • A DVD including the Final Showings as well as all of the teaching phrases from the weekend can be pre-ordered for $10 each. You can also sign up on-site to receive a video for $15.  All DVDs will be mailed via USPS.

 

 

Teacher Discounts

  • When 6-10 students register from your studio, school or team, receive 1 Teacher tuition FREE
  • When 10 or more students register from your studio, school or team, receive 2 Teacher tuitions FREE

 

 

Cancellation & Refund Policy

All fees are non-refundable except for reasons due to severe illness, death or unforeseen acts of nature. Fees are refunded only when notified prior to or at the event and with the proper medical or legal documentation received no later than one week after the event. RED Feet Productions, LLC reserves the right to refuse refunds. Call for details.

 

 

Wristbands

New Orleans Winter Dance Intensive is a private event. Wristbands must be worn at all times by students, teachers/studio owners, observers and staff. Registration is valid when wristband is being worn and is intact. A $20 fee will be charged for wristbands that have been removed or damaged.

 

 

Safety and Other

  • Chaperones are required for all dancers age 15 and under.
  • Dancers must wear cover-ups when leaving classrooms.
  • No gymnastics in classrooms or halls.
  • Please report any accidents and/or injuries to a Staff member immediately.
  • Video cameras and cassette recorders are not allowed during any class time. The Final Showings may be recorded. Regular flash cameras are allowed. No tripods.
  • Food, smoking and alcohol are prohibited in the classrooms and hallways.
  • Misconduct and excess noise away from the dance area is not permitted and can be cause for removal from the event.
  • By registering, you grant RED Feet Productions, LLC the right to use your image.
 
 
 
Area Information 
The Hampton Inn & Suites is located directly across from the Morial Convention Center.   While students are in class, chaperones and other family members and friends can take advantage of the attractions of the Warehouse Arts District and the near-by French Quarter.  The hotel is within walking distance to the Louisiana Children's Museum, Riverwalk Marketplace, the art galleries of Julia Street, the Canal St. Streetcar line, and the Aquarium of the Americas.
