For Int Jazz the dancer must have mastered basic jazz technique and be ready to push to the next level.  The class will focus on the dancer's coordination and musicality.  The jazz choreography will allow the dancer to work on their ability to be sharp and fluid. The dancer will work on different styles of jazz and be introduced to contemporary movement.

ADV Contemporary-Nicole Wolcott

This vigorous class combines the virtuosity of classical technique and the release of post-modern dance with Wolcott's own dramatic idiosyncrasies. The result is a quirky but highly athletic aesthetic that one student describes as, "Punk rock/release- based modern dance." Young dancers will be invited to explore their own performance skills while honing their core technique.  Each student will be challenged to master advanced contemporary movement within the parameters of an intermediate class level.  Class will focus on strength training, flexibility and teaching the mind and body to work smarter, not harder.  By exploring the physics of body weight through drops, catches, and turns, students may develop a technique that is both dynamic and nuanced. Phrase work includes gesture, patterns of flight and fall, inversion and performance technique.  Material for this class is drawn from various techniques and movement styles including Limon, hip-hop, ballet and release.  It is Wolcott's priority to include a sense of fun and creativity in the dancer's approach to growth.

Elective Options

Musical Theatre & Dance -

Lindsay Ogle

A fun and exciting class for the triple-threat performer.  Get a taste of Broadway by dancing, singing and acting simultaneously.  Class begins with dance, and vocals will gradually be layered in.  Once students are comfortable, they can begin to make choices by adding their own style to the routine.  Class culminates with small group performances for fellow classmates. Focus is on presentation while discovering new breathing techniques required for the singer-dancer.  Students may wear character heels or jazz shoes.

Dance Composition - Nicole Wolcott

This class will include elements of improvisation with the goal toward setting work.   By incorporating tools from the different viewpoints of space, time, shape and movement we may create a dance. Students will be guided through basic playful tasks to create using these viewpoints. With an open mind and a sense of play we can make dances from scratch.

INT Hip-Hop

This class will move at a slower pace, giving the dancer time to pick up the intricacies of Hip-Hop isolations.  Dancers should have had at least basic experience with jazz and/or hip-hop technique.

- Terrance Morgan

In this class, dancers will learn basic breaking moves such as Top Rock, Go Down, Footwork, and Freezes.  Class content will be influenced by Martial Arts, Capoeira, and each dancer's own style.  This class will also show basic clubbin' (house) steps in the dance culture such as Jacking, Farmers Step, SK8ing and Floorwork, which were all influenced by African, Tap, and Latin styles.  Dancers will learn how to incorporate these moves into their own style.

Ballet Workout - Lindsay Ogle

This is achieved through strength-building warm-ups followed by a series of rigorous jumps and turns in center floor.  The class culminates with traveling across the floor incorporating all skills learned throughout this fast-paced class.

Improvisation - Nicole Wolcott

Students will be asked to "come as they are," with curiosity and a sense of humor. We will explore viewpoints of time, space, and body in a fun interactive environment.
